Children of Light

A November awoke
As the winter sun shattering bubbles of rain
Everything soaking
Wet
Us laughing and playing.
I reach out my hand and a million
throw in theirs.

We dance like soft, mad children.
Lilac petals crowd the insides of our eyes
Falling now from under my eyelids–
Tears of joy, tears of a rush,
On to our arms,
Soft, round and brown
Bruised with the dark spots
Branding us the children of light.
